Dear Manipalites

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Malaysian Society of Interventional Radiology. MYSIR is committed to bring the practice of interventional radiology to the forefront of the Malaysian medical practice through collaboration with fellow physicians, the government and the supporting industry.

Interventional Radiology has been practiced in Malaysia from 1968, when the first aortogram was performed, closely followed by balloon angioplasty of the aorta and coronary arteries. It has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception.

It plays a crucial role in the management of patients in this era, when treatment becomes increasingly minimalistic. Despite being at the cutting edge of increasingly sophisticated minimally invasive procedures, our work is poorly understood by fellow clinicians and the public.

We are therefore committed to bring interventional radiology to the forefront of the Malaysian medical practice. To that end we strive to ensure that our educational activities meet the needs of our members; enhancing our knowledge, sharpening our skills and providing us with the ability to make our treatment safe and effective.

Our activities will also include awareness for both the medical fraternity and the public.

We will engage in communication with the government and industry to make interventional radiology services available to more Malaysians.

We are committed in ensuring that our procedures are safe, adhering to international guidelines while practicing evidence based medicine.

We are current in the way the world is changing and understand that the borders between disciplines are increasingly blurred, therefore encouraging multidisciplinary approaches in the way our patients are being treated.

We hope that the inception of the society will further enhance the development of interventional radiology in our country.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Josephine Subramaniam
President 2012-2014
Malaysian Society of Interventional Radiology
